Water is our most precious resource and more people should treat it as such. Water supplies are not renewable resources in the sense that new water molecules are not being created. Much of the freshwater in the world comes from melting ice and snow deposited in past ice ages. It's said in the water world that, “All the water is, is.” Water does change form from liquid to solid to gas multiple times in the environment, and this change is reflected in the hydrologic cycle. Water is better defined as a reusable resource. Freshwater constitutes only 3 percent of the total water supply on earth. The other 97 percent is saline or brackish, unusable for drinking or agriculture without treatment. This is why existing freshwater supplies are such precious resources and so critical to our survival. As population grows and the demand for food increases, fresh water is a limited resource truly under siege in around the world. |
